Moments That Matter: Celebrating Inclusion at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Summer Party

This year’s Summer Party at Birmingham Children’s Hospital was nothing short of magical. It’s always one of the most uplifting events of the year—but this time, it felt especially meaningful.

Firstplay Dietary Foods had the privilege of supporting the celebration in a way that brought smiles, excitement, and a powerful sense of inclusion. We supplied a pizza van serving low protein pizzas, specially made using our Promin All Purpose Baking Mix. For many of the children attending—living with inborn errors of metabolism—this was the first time they’d experienced the simple joy of ordering food from a pizza van, just like their peers.

We’re also incredibly grateful to The Pizza Post, whose team went above and beyond to make the experience truly special. A huge thank you to Issy and Will, who took the time to learn more about IEMs and were absolutely fantastic with the kids—warm, patient, and full of energy. Their care and enthusiasm helped turn a simple slice of pizza into a moment of joy and connection.

Tom Fletcher, Firstplay’s MD says “Behind the scenes, a lot of thought and coordination went into making this moment possible. From recipe development to logistics and compliance, our team worked closely with the hospital to ensure every detail was safe, suitable, and celebratory. But seeing the reactions—the wide eyes, the laughter, the pride in holding a slice of pizza that was truly theirs—made every effort worthwhile.”

We’re deeply grateful to the incredible team at Birmingham Children’s Hospital for hosting yet another unforgettable event, and to everyone who helped bring this idea to life. These are the moments that remind us why we do what we do: not just to meet nutritional needs, but to create experiences that foster joy, dignity, and belonging.

Here’s to more moments that matter—and to the power of food in bringing people together.
